Brian Bess – President of the Board of Directors
Brian Bess joined the Hope House Board of Directors in 2017. As one of the founding principles of Enduring Resources, Brian has held the position of Vice President of Engineering since the firm’s inception. Brian was also Vice President of Engineering for Westport from 1998 to 2004 and has held various engineering positions with Petro-Lewis Corp, Energy Investment Management, General Royalty Companies and General Atlantic Resources/UMC Petroleum Corp. Highly committed to philanthropic causes, Brian has also served on the boards of Elevate USA and Hope International. He and his wife Christine live in Littleton and have two grown children.
Jennifer Zertuche – Treasurer of the Board of Directors
Jennifer Zertuche joined the Hope House Board of Directors in May 2018 and has been a member of the Finance Committee since 2009. Jennifer earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Metropolitan State University of Denver. She is a Senior Vice President of Accounting at FirstBank and has over 15 years of experience in banking. Jennifer and her husband Erik have four children and enjoy hiking, riding motorcycles and traveling.
Steve Reynolds – Secretary of the Board of Directors
Steve Reynolds, who is passionate about empowering teen moms to break the cycle of poverty and create brighter futures for themselves and their children, joined the Hope House Board of Directors in 2019. Steve is the founding partner of Indigena Holdings and the co-owner and Vice President of Infinity Oil & Gas, Inc. He also holds board positions for A Precious Child and Fellowship in Service to Humanity (FISH). Steve earned a B.A. in Geology as well as a B.A. in Business from Western State College (Western Colorado University). He and his wife Paula live in Broomfield and are the proud parents of three adult daughters and two adult foster daughters.
Lindsay Bernum joined the Hope House Board of Directors in October 2012. She is an Investor at Smith Capital Investors, a position she has held since the firm’s inception in 2018. In her role, Ms. Bernum complements and leverages the strength of each team member to focus on capital preservation and produce risk-adjusted returns for clients. Prior to joining Smith Capital Investors, Lindsay was a Global Macro Analyst for the fixed income team at Janus Capital Management LLC (Janus Henderson). Lindsay has 16 years of financial industry experience and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Colorado. Having been a teen mom, Lindsay was blessed with an amazing family and supportive community, empowering Lindsay to reach self-sufficiency. Lindsay believes that providing opportunities for women, specifically teen moms, will lift up future generations and change the world. Lindsay currently resides in Denver with her husband and three children, and enjoys the beautiful Colorado mountains and traveling the world with her family.
Lee joined the Hope House Board of Directors in 2020. With 30 years of diverse career experiences in the communications and technology industry, Lee holds a B.S. in Mathematics from Colby College and MS in Computer Science from George Washington University. In between earning these degrees, Lee joined the USAF Pilot Training Program and graduated in the top 5% of his class. He completed his master’s degree at GWU while working as an instructor pilot for USAF. Lee brings together an extraordinary array of business development skills, along with sales & marketing, technical support, product management, software development and operations experience. Lee and his wife Jackie live in Littleton and enjoy traveling the world together or spending time with their five children and five grandchildren.
Jenny Gonzales joined the Hope House Board of Directors in September 2020. Jenny is a State Transformation Specialist for the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) where she supports the development and implementation of a statewide coordinated system of support for districts and schools in improvement. Prior to joining CDE, Jenny worked for the Arkansas Department of Education where she led initiatives that focused on scaling evidence-based practices for students with disabilities. With over 17 years of education experience, Jenny holds a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education with a minor in English as a second language and a master’s degree in teaching. Having been a teenage mother, Jenny was fortunate to have a support system that allowed her to finish high school and go to college. She is passionate about ending generational teen pregnancy and poverty. Jenny and her husband of 20 years, Joe, enjoy spending time in the outdoors hiking and fishing with their two dogs and visiting with their son and extended family.
Chris joined the Hope House Board of Directors in 2020. As Gorilla Logic’s Executive responsible for new client acquisition and growth, Chris leverages his business acumen and passion for helping others. He coaches the sales team and guides Gorilla Logic clients in reaching their maximum potential through partnering on enterprise application development. He joined Gorilla Logic after serving as director of global business development for a technology solutions provider. Prior to these work experiences, Chris began his professional career running a Motocross training and coaching company while partaking in the sport himself. Outside of work and his love for riding motorcycles, Chris balances family time with giving back to his community through organizations like Hope House Colorado. He and his wife Brittany have been married for seven amazing years and have a 5-year-old son and 1-year-old daughter.
Karla joined the Hope House Board of Directors in 2021. As a founding partner and chief revenue officer of Weifield Group Electrical, Karla is responsible for the company’s business development, marketing, sales and preconstruction departments in CO, TN, TX and WY. Karla promotes Weifield Group while passionately advocating for a better construction workforce and industry, as well as the needs of the less fortunate. She advocates for improved training for the next generation of construction workers, which led to her to become a founding member of SkillBuild Colorado and Skills2Compete Colorado. Her deep commitment to philanthropy and her professional achievements led her to be recognized as one of the Colorado Chamber of Commerce’s ‘Top 25 Most Powerful Women’ in 2018. She is highly proficient at building relationships and alliances and is regarded by her peers, design community, developers, general contractors and vendors as a leader in her industry. Karla holds a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Colorado State University. Karla and her husband Jack have two children and enjoy working with different charities that benefit at-risk youth and adults.
Stephen A. Prokopiak, P.E.
Stephen joined the Hope House Board of Directors in 2016. With 45 years of engineering and construction management experience, Steve holds a B.S. and an MS in Civil Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. His experience includes not only design and design management but also construction management of small to medium sized projects. Prior to joining Hope House, Steve served on the Board of Directors of HomeAid Colorado, a national charity with a mission to provide housing for the transitionally homeless with emphasis on providing facilities to local young families and military veterans. He has received several awards for his commitment to this cause, including HomeAid-Colorado Volunteer of the Year. Since retiring in 2015, Steve and his wife have focused on family, travel and giving back to the community.
Alicia joined the Hope House Board of Directors in 2021. She first joined the Hope House family in 2013 to begin a new journey with her daughter as a teen mom. Hope House became the foundation for their healing process and enabled Alicia to become self-sufficient by introducing her to life skills, resources and business partnerships. After graduating from Hope House, Alicia began her career in 2016 at WAXIE Sanitary Supply as a sales administrator. Since that time, she has consistently given back to her community by serving on the board of various nonprofit organizations. In 2017, Alicia served as a mentor and board member at an organization that mentored grade school girls and provided workshops to teach them the importance of life skills. In 2020, she served as a board member for a nonprofit whose focus is to create economic empowerment in the community by providing a safe space where diverse people groups can connect and exchange knowledge. In her free time, Alicia enjoys spending time with her significant other and their two children, a boy and girl, as they explore the beauty of nature in Colorado.
Paul Snyder joined the Hope House Board of Directors in 2020. He is a strong believer that breaking the cycle of poverty begins with impactful programs provided by Hope House. Paul is the president and founder of American West Construction, LLC, a heavy civil construction company based in Adams County, CO. In addition to Hope House, he serves on the board of directors for the Colorado Contractors Association, a construction industry trade group. Paul earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY, and is a licensed professional engineer in Colorado and Virginia. Paul and his wife, Missy, are blessed with a young daughter and enjoy spending time outdoors in the mountains of Colorado.
John Steven, with his wife Lisa, is one of the founders of Hope House Colorado and has served on the Board of Directors since the ministry’s inception in 2000. John and Lisa were teen parents and have been married 23 years. John is a machinist and has been with his family’s business, J&D Machine Technology, for 26 years. John is also a kinetic sculptor and designs steel sculptures that can be viewed at www.jrssculpture.com
Brian Sump joined the Hope House Board of Directors in 2020. Brian is a former professional athlete and entrepreneur. In 2007, he started his first business, Avalon Motorsports, which specializes in German car service and sales. In 2014, Brian and his team opened Urban Autocare, a second shop in Denver to cater to all makes and models and they are currently working on their fifth shop location. Brian has been involved with many different businesses including SaferNet, an Arvada-based tech company that empowers parents to protect their children and their electronic devices from malicious attacks as well as businesses in gourmet confections and athletic performance training. He provides consulting services for a variety of industries and serves on several nonprofit boards including Novation Church in Westminster, CO where he is also an associate pastor. Brian was one of the first businesses to partner with Hope House in employing young moms and one of the first members of the Hope House Development Committee, where he served for several years prior to joining the Board of Directors.

OF THE BOARD
The purpose of the Development Committee is to expand Hope House Colorado’s reach via influential members of the communities we serve. This committee will help support our two major annual events as well as our smaller events. Committee members help with connections, promotion and solicitation and attend quarterly meetings.

We would love to expand our committee, please bring them to the June meeting at Hope House.
Thursday, June 17th @ 6 PM – at Hope House, where we will have a happy hour meeting with ping pong and corn hole. You will get to meet one or more moms and hear an update on COVID impact.
Tuesday, September 14th @ 6 PM – at a fun offsite venue; there will be more details on where this will be held coming soon.
